Rooted in Commitment as RTC-KPVTC, Davao Takes Earth Month to the Shores of Samal with Mangrove Tree Planting and Coastal Cleanup

As part of the Center’s Earth Month 2026 Celebration and in support of the TESDA Green TVET Program, RTC-KPVTC, Davao conducted the Green Roots Mangrove Tree Planting Activity and Coastal Cleanup on April 29, 2026 at Sabang, Kaputian, Island Garden City of Samal.

The activity, officially titled “Rooted in Commitment: RTC-KPVTC, Davao Green TVET Mangrove Planting Initiative 2026,” was implemented in coordination with the LGU-IGaCoS through its City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), following a formal request letter addressed to Mayor Lemuel “Toto” T. Reyes and coursed through CENRO Head Engr. Florante O. Enriquez.

The activity commenced at 9 in the morning with an environmental orientation led by CENRO personnel, who provided a brief on the ecological importance of mangroves, proper planting techniques, and the coastal area’s rehabilitation status. Participants were then divided into groups and deployed to their designated planting areas along the coastline of Sabang, Kaputian.

A total of 75 seedlings were planted by the RTC-KPVTC, Davao personnel along the mangrove rehabilitation zone. The seedlings were provided through the coordination of CENRO in support of the Center’s request. Following the planting activity, the group conducted a coastal cleanup in the immediate area, collecting solid waste to help maintain the cleanliness and health of the coastal ecosystem.

The activity strengthened the Center’s institutional commitment to environmental protection, climate resilience, and community-based sustainability efforts. It also served as a tangible expression of the Green TVET mandate, extending environmental responsibility beyond the campus and into the broader community.
