The Training on Sustainable Agriculture, Bokashi Making, and Organic Concoction Making aimed to equip the participants of the Villar Foundation Farm School (VFFS) with practical, low-cost skills in organic soil and crop management using materials that are already available on the farm/households.
RTC-KPVTC, Davao conducted the Training on Sustainable Agriculture, Bokashi Making, and Organic Concoction Making on August 10, 2026 at the Villar Foundation Farm School (VFFS), Brgy. Communal, Davao City. Delivered face-to-face with hands-on activities, the training was carried out in partnership with VFFS, continuing a collaboration between the two institutions built on a shared advocacy, which is to promote sustainable agriculture and to put practical, low-cost farming skills directly in the hands of the community and households.
The day opened with Engr. John Rome L. Balbanida, who handled the session on Sustainable Agriculture. He set the technical work of the day against a bigger picture familiar to every farmer in the room which includes declining soil health, the rising cost of commercial inputs, and the case for closing the loop on farm waste instead of paying to replace what the farm already produces on its own.
Ms. Mary Grace P. Arellano then took the floor for Bokashi Making, moving the participants from theory to mixing bowl. She walked them through the 75:25 carbon-to-nitrogen proportion that anchors a good batch of rice bran and carbonized rice hull on the carbon side, soybean or copra meal on the nitrogen side, activated with effective microorganisms and molasses in unchlorinated water.
Engr. Ailyn R. Tejero closed the technical sessions with Organic Concoction Making, guiding the participants through the preparation of organic concoctions from plant, fruit, and farm materials sourced from within the farm itself. Working in groups, the participants measured, mixed, and labeled their own preparations for fermentation.
The training capped a day in which the participants left not only with notes, but with sample fermented batches of organic products. VFFS and RTC-KPVTC, Davao signified their intent to sustain the partnership and to bring similar training to more farming communities in the region, transforming common farm wastes into farm wealth.
The partnership between VFFS and RTC-KPVTC, Davao was strengthened, with both institutions affirming sustainable agriculture as a shared advocacy and a continuing area of collaboration.
