Hands in the Soil, Eyes on the Future as RTC-KPVTC, Davao Trains 4Ps Beneficiaries in Sustainable Agriculture and Bokashi Making

The Regional Training Center-Korea-Philippines Vocational Training Center (RTC-KPVTC), Davao, in partnership with the Villar Foundation Farm School (VFFS) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region XI, conducted a Training on Sustainable Agriculture and Bokashi Making at VFFS, Brgy. Communal, Davao City last Thursday, June 4, 2026.

The activity brought together the Training Center and partner institutions in a collaborative effort to promote sustainable and community-based agricultural practices among 4Ps beneficiaries in Brgy. Communal, helping equip them with skills toward greater self-reliance and livelihood.

The technical sessions were delivered by trainers from RTC-KPVTC, Davao, Ms. Mary Grace P. Arellano and Engr. John Rome L. Balbanida.

The training combined lecture-discussion on sustainable agriculture principles with hands-on demonstrations on land preparation, Bokashi making, and a simple way of growing plants without soil using recycled materials.

For sustainable agriculture, participants performed land preparation and transplanted the sowed pechay into the garden raised beds. They were also shown how to grow plants in everyday recycled containers, such as 1.5-liter plastic bottles, demonstrating how ordinary household items can be repurposed to raise crops in small spaces at very little cost. In the Bokashi session, participants learned to ferment locally available organic materials using effective microorganisms to produce a low-cost organic fertilizer and soil conditioner.

4Ps beneficiaries actively engaged in the practical exercises and expressed strong interest in applying the learned techniques in their own backyards, communal gardens, and farming activities.

The training aimed to equip participants with foundational knowledge and practical skills in sustainable agriculture and the production of anaerobic Bokashi fertilizer, enabling them to apply low-cost, environment-friendly farming practices in their respective households while supporting food security, soil health, and additional livelihood opportunities.

The participants were Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries from Brgy. Communal, identified and endorsed in coordination with DSWD Region XI and the Villar Foundation Farm School (VFFS). A total of 27 4Ps beneficiaries attended the training.
