RTC-KorPhil Joins Plastic-Free TESDA XI Challenge to Promote Eco-Friendly Practices

In support of TESDA Region XI’s campaign to promote environmental sustainability, TESDA RTC-KorPhil Davao launched its participation in the Plastic-Free TESDA XI Challenge beginning April 21, 2025, through RTC Memorandum No. 409, series of 2025. The initiative, which ran until April 25, 2025, was implemented as part of the institution’s broader environmental efforts aligned with Earth Month, Green TVET Week, and TESDA’s commitment to embedding sustainability into technical education.

The campaign encouraged all trainees, trainers, and staff to reduce their use of single-use plastics by adopting eco-friendly alternatives such as reusable utensils, tumblers, lunch containers, and cloth bags. Organized across departments and trade areas, the activity aimed to promote daily sustainable practices within the Training Center. Anchored in the Green TVET Framework, the Plastic-Free Challenge supports the pillars of “Greening the Campus” and “Greening Institutional Culture”, advancing the center’s commitment to creating a clean, responsible, and climate-conscious training community.

This initiative complemented the Training Center’s ongoing sustainability programs, including the Greening the Campus Garden Project, and reinforced institutional support for low-waste and climate-smart practices. More than a symbolic act, the Plastic-Free Challenge served as a platform for building new habits, increasing awareness, and promoting accountability among the entire RTC-KorPhil community.

As a result, the campaign not only reduced visible plastic waste on campus but also helped embed environmental values into the behavior and decision-making of trainees and staff. The activity also offered experiential learning that supports RTC-KorPhil Davao’s broader alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—especially those related to climate action, responsible consumption, and quality education.

By successfully implementing the Plastic-Free TESDA XI Challenge, RTC-KorPhil Davao reaffirms its role in promoting Green TVET implementation—creating a learning environment that is not only technically excellent but also ecologically responsible and future-ready.
