RTC KorPhil Davao Holds Training Induction Program for STEP Scholars in Mati City

The Regional Training Center – Korea-Philippines Vocational Training Center (RTC-KPVTC) Davao officially launched the Training Induction Program (TIP) for scholarship beneficiaries of the Special Training for Employment Program (STEP) on August 19, 2025 (Tuesday), in Mati City, Davao Oriental.

The TIP marked the start of five training batches, covering priority technical qualifications aimed at expanding livelihood opportunities in the province, namely: 1 batch of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC I, 2 batches of Bread and Pastry Production (BPP) NC II, and 2 batches of Cookery NC II. Most of the scholars of SMAW NC I are former rebels (FRs), which will soon be incorporated back into society, with the help of government programs such as TESDA scholarships.

The TIP for the Cookery NC II and BPP NC II batches was conducted by Ms. Kimberly R. Almario, Scholarship Staff, at the Provincial Training Center (PTC) – Davao Oriental in Brgy. Dahican, while the SMAW NC I orientation was simultaneously facilitated by Mr. Joie Vincent R. Dagohoy, Scholarship Focal, at Davao Oriental Happy Homes in Brgy. Don Martin Marundan.

Congressman Cheeno Miguel D. Almario, representative of the 2nd District of Davao Oriental, joined the activity and expressed his support for TESDA’s continuing efforts to provide quality technical-vocational education in the province. The TIP was held under the guidance of TESDA Davao City District Office (DCDO) Director Novielita A. Dispo, further strengthening the implementation of training programs.

The orientation familiarized scholars with the objectives of STEP, their scholarship benefits, training schedules, and institutional policies. It also highlighted opportunities for employment and self-employment after completion of the courses. With 125 scholars in total, this initiative underscores TESDA’s commitment to empowering Filipinos with practical skills, boosting employability, and fostering inclusive development in Davao Oriental.
