KOICA Sends Korean Overseas Volunteer for Agriculture in RTC-KorPhil, Davao

In a significant stride towards international cooperation in the field of agriculture, Mr. Im Kynguk, a dedicated volunteer from Korea, has taken on the role of a Korean Overseas Volunteer (KOV) in the Philippines. With his expertise and passion for agriculture, Mr. Im is set to make a transformative impact on the agricultural landscape of the Philippines, particularly in the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority XI – Regional Training Center – Korea-Philippines Vocational Training Center (RTC-KPVTC) in Davao City.

Before embarking on his assignment, Mr. Im Kynguk underwent comprehensive preparations to ensure that he would be effective in his role. He participated in a five-week in-country training program held in Manila, where he acquired insights into the local agricultural practices, challenges, and the socio-economic dynamics of the Philippines. This training not only provided him with cultural awareness but also deepened his understanding of the context in which he would be working.

Additionally, from August 7 to 11, 2023, Mr. Im visited RTC-KPVTC to explore the training center, its facilities, and the city of Davao. This familiarization trip allowed him to establish a connection with the location he would call home for the next part of his journey.

Turn Over Ceremony and Arrival

The official Turn Over Ceremony, hosted by the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) was held on August 23, 2023, in Quezon City. This marked a symbolic moment in Mr. Im’s journey. The event was attended by Engr. Lougino A. Miguel, DABET Head Trainer, will be his direct co-worker from the Diploma in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Technology (DABET) of RTC-KorPhil, Davao.

On August 24, 2023, Mr. Im Kynguk arrived in Davao City, ready to embrace his role as a Korean Overseas Volunteer (KOV). Mr. Im Kynguk’s presence was met with enthusiasm and warmth as he engaged with the officers and employees of RTC-KorPhil, Davao. His courteous approach and willingness to collaborate showcased his commitment to working harmoniously with the local team to bring positive change.

His primary mission revolves around two key objectives; namely, enhancing the RTC-KorPhil model farm and establishing an urban organic irrigation system. With his extensive knowledge and skills in agriculture, he aims to contribute valuable insights to improve the productivity and sustainability of the model farm. Additionally, the establishment of an urban organic irrigation system aligns with modern sustainable practices, helping the training center move towards a more ecologically responsible approach to agriculture.

Mr. Im Kynguk’s journey as a Korean Overseas Volunteer is not just a personal endeavor, but a testament to international cooperation in driving positive change.
