RTC-KorPhil Davao Holds Successful Coastal Clean-Up Drive in Buhisan

The initiative, titled “KorPhil with a Heart: A Community Coastal Clean-Up Drive,” is part of RTC-KorPhil’s continuing efforts under its Greening TVET program, which integrates sustainable practices and environmental responsibility into the institution’s technical-vocational education framework.

Dozens of trainees, trainers, and members of the RTC-KorPhil community joined the activity, working together to collect trash and marine debris from the shoreline. The event not only contributed to a cleaner and safer coastal environment but also served as a learning experience for participants on the importance of collective environmental action.

The clean-up was spearheaded by TESD Specialist II Edison C. Tasic, who also serves as the NSTP Focal Person. He was joined and supported by NSTP Trainer Dina T. Catantan, along with Jay Mark Nuevo, Manuel Ceasar Beltran Jr., Johanna Rheasle Fernandez, and Ma’am Ianna Marie Pioquinto. Their leadership helped guide the smooth implementation of the activity.

Support from the local community was equally vital. Purok Leader Roselyn Caranguit and Joebert Jumalon, former Center Foreman of the KorPhil Davao Student Council and now serving as the secretary of Barangay Tibungco, also played key roles in organizing and mobilizing volunteers.

The clean-up served not only as a response to environmental challenges but also as a concrete example of RTC-KorPhil’s ongoing commitment to community involvement and sustainability. The event demonstrated how technical education can go hand-in-hand with values formation, civic responsibility, and environmental awareness.

More outreach programs and eco-centered activities are lined up under the Greening TVET initiative, reinforcing the center’s goal of producing not only skilled workers but also socially aware and environmentally responsible individuals.
